This is Better Novel Project’s first GIVEAWAY– I’ve got two gorgeous notebooks from Write Notepads & Co. to give out, plus a few other updates.
Read on to see what I’m researching, planning, reading, learning, and sharing!
1. What I’m Researching
I saw flying droids playing a symphony, biometric animal-robots, plasmonics, secret-code writing typewriters, and many 3D printers in action (pictured). Tons of ideas for my WIP!
2. What I’m Planning
I asked my newsletter subscribers for their input on what genre we should deconstruct next. (Thanks for your responses!) I’m trying to plan ahead so I can read the next books before the current master outline is complete.
You can see in the chart that there is a tie between Fantasy, YA, and Thriller (and there’s still a tie even if you combine similar genres: Dystopian + Sci Fi = 24%; Thriller + Cozy Mystery = 23%).
Looks like a tie-breaking survey is in our future.
3. What I’m Reading
And Sujata Massey even came!
The Sleeping Dictionary is a page-turning coming-of-age narrative that is set on the sweeping historical backdrop of India’s struggle for independence from Britain. It’s beautiful.
4. What I’m Learning
I just downloaded C.S. Lakin‘s new book, Writing the Heart of Your Story: The Secret to Crafting an Unforgettable Novel.
(Remember C.S. Lakin stopped by to give us a talking-to about grammar?)
I’m psyched to work through her “First Page Checklist” and determine my hero’s “Main Dramatic Query.”
5. What I’m Sharing
I recently purchased two gorgeous notebooks from Write Notepads & Co. What a surprise when I saw they sent me TWO extra notebooks to share with you all. Hooray!
This is a cool company because for every notebook they sell, they give one away to a Baltimore City Public School. Like Tom’s, but finely letterpressed. (Plus, the founder went to my high school!)
There’s even a code in each one so you can track which school receives your notebook.
Here’s the scoop:
- Both notepads are 5.5″ x 8.5″ with 120 pages of premium brass-rule paper (fountain pen friendly!), finely letter-pressed rugged board covers, and come with a durable closure band. Made and sourced in the USA.
- One notepad is the limited edition “Baltimore” notepad (can’t go wrong with the city of Edgar Allen Poe, the Fitzgerald’s, and yours truly)
- The other notepad is the Paul South notepad (“The World’s Finest Left-Handed Notebook”)
To enter the giveaway, just leave a comment here indicating whether you’d like to win the Baltimore one or the Left-Handed one. I’ll choose two winners randomly (you can enter up until 11:59 PM on Monday, 7/7/2014).[UPDATE: The giveaway is now closed]
Leave a comment below to enter. Good luck! [UPDATE: The giveaway is now closed. Thank you all for your entries, and thank you Write Notepads and Co. for spreading the love! Congratulations to Ivy Decker, winner of the Baltimore notebook, and to Ace Baker, winner of the Paul South notebook.]
